Our new home of Vero Beach, is a hidden gem on Florida's epic Treasure Coast, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty, educational experiences, and active adventures that are sure to delight kids of all ages. Whether you're planning a family getaway or have lived in the neighborhood for generations, get ready to pack sunscreen & snacks because I'm about to share the absolute best activities for families in Vero! Our highly active and enthusiastic nearly three-year-old son has loved all of these things, so you know you're down for a good time.

  1. McKee Botanical Garden | 350 US-1, Vero Beach, FL 32962

Step into a world of botanical wonder at McKee Botanical Garden. This isn't your average quiet garden stroll; it's an immersive experience for curious minds. Kids will love exploring the winding paths, discovering the incredible variety of plants, and spotting the playful water features. Don't miss the children's garden, which often has interactive exhibits, musical instruments, reading nooks and whimsical structures that spark imagination. It's a fantastic way to introduce nature in a fun and engaging way. We also loved their annual Jungle Lights ($35) festivities, which included a massive train set and tree lighting ceremony!

  1. Environmental Learning Center | 255 Live Oak Dr Building A, Vero Beach, FL 32963

For budding naturalists and animal lovers, the world-class Environmental Learning Center (ELC) is an absolute must-visit. Situated on a beautiful lagoon island, the ELC offers hands-on exhibits, nature trails, and even canoe and kayak rentals. Kids can get up close with local wildlife, learn about the delicate ecosystem of the Indian River Lagoon, and participate in educational programs. It's an enriching experience that fosters a love for the environment. You've got to add their seasonal events, Lagoonapalooza ($0) , WinterGreen Night Lights ($5) and Outdoor Movie Nights ($0) to your family calendar!

  1. Jaycee Park Beach Cove | 4200 Ocean Dr, Vero Beach, FL 32963

Of course, no trip to Vero Beach is complete without ample time at the beach! With miles of pristine coastline, Vero Beach offers perfect conditions for building sandcastles, searching for seashells, and splashing in the waves. This lifeguarded beach provides an extra layer of safety, and the gentle slopes of the shore are ideal for little ones. There's even an amazing playground just steps from the sand! Great for playdates. Clean bathrooms. Pack your sunscreen, towels, and a sense of adventure for endless beach fun.

  1. Vero Beach Museum of Art | 3001 Riverside Park Dr, Vero Beach, FL 32963

While not immediately obvious for kids, the museum often has interactive exhibits, art classes, and programs specifically designed for young visitors, making art accessible and fun. We love the weekly music and toddler storytime class for members and visitors alike! One of my favorite memories since we moved here was watching my dad and son paint side by side at their annual Holidays at the Museum, which attracted over 2,000 people! Their collection is impressive and recent fundraising efforts have secured more than $100 million dollars.

Bucking Broncos. Bull Wranglers. Lassos. Big Belt Buckles. Cowboy Hats. Country Music. You'll feel like you've crossed into Texas after driving down the sandy road to The Overpass Arena! We loved bringing our family to this local rodeo series, which happens every few months. Check their event calendar to see when they're back in town ($25 for adults and toddlers are free)!

Known simply as "Humiston," this park is located right across from the beloved Farmer's Market every Saturday on Ocean Drive! This robust play area is outfitted like a pirate ship and has everything you need for a good time, including grassy space, swings, slides and large seascape artworks that add to the ambience. If you need to cool off on a hot day, there is an outdoor shower. You can even book the large covered pavilions for an all-day party ($51.50) though the City of Vero Beach's Parks and Recreation Department.

  1. Riverside Theatre | 3250 Riverside Park Dr, Vero Beach, FL 32963

I've been blown away by the high-caliber productions at Riverside Theatre, including many events for children. We loved the Vero Beach Ballet's recent production of The Nutcracker ($10), which uniquely featured beloved lagoon creatures and offered a special matinee just for busy little ones! It was 100% no stress when our little guy wiggled or whined a little bit. You'll also love the weekly concerts of "Live on the Loop" ($0) where kids can dance along to live music and parents can enjoy delicious food and drinks! We rented a cabana one night and absolutely loved our experience.

  2. Cravings

After a day of exploring, what's better than a sweet treat? Since 1984, Cravings has been a local ice cream favorite and for good reason! They offer a delicious array of homemade ice cream flavors that will satisfy any sweet tooth. It's the perfect spot to cool down and enjoy a delightful treat with the whole family. Be prepared for some tough decisions – all the flavors are amazing! But your little guy will probably go for the neon blue "Superman" flavor.

If you're a local, what are your favorite toddler-approved activities? I'm excited to continue exploring our amazing new hometown as he grows and grows and groooows! Vero Beach truly offers a diverse range of activities that cater to every family's budgets, interests and activity level. From the tranquility of botanical gardens to the excitement of the beach and the intrigue of history, your kids are sure to create lasting memories in our charming Florida town!
